RBC Royal Bank
RBC business clients pay vendors by EFT through RBC Express, RBC's online banking platform for businesses. Your RBC business account manager adds the EFT payments service to your profile, has the origination agreement signed and issues a Client Number, which is RBC's name for the originator ID that identifies your company on every file you send.
With Zefty, that is the last time you think about the format. Enter your Client Number and account details once, and every file you generate from your Zoho Books bills is built to CPA 005 and to what RBC Express expects. Validate a test file first, then go live and let Zefty record each payment in Zoho Books.
How it works
-
Enable EFT origination with RBC
Ask your RBC business account manager to add the EFT payments service to your RBC Express profile. RBC has you sign an origination agreement and confirms which users can upload and approve files.
-
Get your Client Number
Once the service is active, RBC issues your Client Number. It identifies your company as the originator on every file, so keep it exactly as RBC wrote it.
-
Confirm your account details
Note the transit number of the branch that holds your business account, the institution number 003 and your account number. A cheque or your RBC Express account summary shows all three.
-
Enter them in Zefty once
Choose RBC Royal Bank during setup, then enter your business name as RBC has it, your Client Number and your account details. Zefty keeps them for every file that follows.
-
Generate, upload and approve
Select the bills to pay in Zefty, choose a payment date and download your file. Upload it in RBC Express, approve it according to your signing rules, and Zefty records the payments in Zoho Books.
Help
- Run your first file in test mode. Zefty marks it as a test for RBC and records nothing in Zoho Books until you are ready to go live.
- Keep the business name in Zefty identical to the name on your RBC account. RBC matches the originator name on the file against its records.
- File numbering is handled for you, including when you move to Zefty from another system, so RBC Express never sees a duplicate.
- Every file is kept with a readable report of exactly what was sent. If RBC Express ever questions a line, you can see it in seconds.
RBC and Zefty: common questions
RBC issues it when it activates EFT origination on your RBC Express profile, usually in the service confirmation from your account manager. If you already send files from another system, the same number is in use there. Ask your RBC representative if you cannot locate it.
It depends on the agreements RBC needs to put in place. Most businesses should plan for several business days to a few weeks. Start the request early; you can connect Zoho Books and finish your Zefty setup while you wait for the Client Number.
Yes. A file originated at RBC can credit an account at any Canadian financial institution. Zefty takes each vendor's banking details from Zoho Books and holds back any bill whose vendor is missing them, before a file exists.
It is rare, and easy to trace. The report kept with that file in Zefty shows exactly what was sent, line by line, so the cause is easy to spot. Correct the vendor's details in Zoho Books and generate a fresh file, or let our support team walk through it with you by email, in English or French.
