National Bank of Canada
National Bank of Canada business clients originate EFT payments through Internet Banking Solutions for Businesses, the bank's online platform for commercial accounts. Your National Bank account manager or business solutions advisor activates the electronic payments service and assigns your originator number, called the numéro d'émetteur in French, which identifies your company on every file.
With Zefty, you enter that number and your account details once. Every file you generate afterwards from Zoho Books is built to CPA 005 and named and formatted the way National Bank expects, so it is recognized on upload. And because Zefty works fully in French, your team and your bank speak the same language.
How it works
-
Enable EFT origination with National Bank
Ask your National Bank account manager to activate electronic payments on Internet Banking Solutions for Businesses. The bank confirms the service agreement, your limits and the users authorized to upload and approve files.
-
Get your originator number
National Bank issues your originator number (numéro d'émetteur) when the service is active. It identifies your company on every file, so keep it exactly as the bank issued it.
-
Confirm your account details
Note the transit number of your branch, the institution number 006 and your business account number. Check them on a cheque or in your account details in Internet Banking Solutions for Businesses.
-
Enter them in Zefty once
Choose National Bank of Canada during setup, enter your business name as the bank has it, your originator number and your account details. Zefty keeps them for every file that follows.
-
Generate, upload and approve
Select bills, choose a payment date and download your file. Upload it in Internet Banking Solutions for Businesses, approve it, and Zefty records the payments in Zoho Books.
Help
- Copy your originator number carefully when you enter it. Zefty uses it on every National Bank file, so one correct entry means files the bank recognizes every time.
- Every file is kept with its number and date in your payment history, so you always know which one you uploaded.
- Run your first file in test mode and ask your advisor to validate it. Zoho Books is not updated until you go live.
- Zefty's interface and support are available in French. Switch the language at any time.
National Bank and Zefty: common questions
National Bank issues it when it activates electronic payments on your account, usually in the confirmation from your account manager or business solutions advisor. It is separate from your account number: the originator number identifies your company as the sender, the account number says where funds are drawn from. Zefty asks for both.
Plan for several business days to a few weeks, depending on the agreement National Bank needs in place. Start early and connect Zoho Books in the meantime; the rest of your Zefty setup takes minutes.
Yes. The interface, the onboarding guide and email support are available in French and English, and the banking terms you see, such as numéro de transit and ID d'émetteur bancaire, match the ones your bank uses.
At every sync, Zefty checks that each vendor has complete banking details in Zoho Books. Bills whose vendor is missing information are flagged and held back before a file exists, so nothing incomplete reaches the bank.
