HSBC Canada

HSBC Canada business clients originate domestic EFT payments through HSBCnet, HSBC's global online banking platform. Your HSBC relationship manager adds the Canadian EFT service to your HSBCnet profile and assigns an Originator ID that identifies your company on every file.

HSBC Canada business accounts have been migrating to RBC since 2024. If yours has moved, use the RBC profile in Zefty and enter the Client Number RBC gave you. If you still bank under institution 016, the HSBC profile builds every file to CPA 005 and to what HSBCnet expects, and either way, every payment is recorded in Zoho Books.

How it works

  1. Confirm which bank you are with

Check whether your HSBC Canada account has migrated to RBC. If your statements and online access now come from RBC, follow the RBC setup instead. If you still operate under HSBC Canada, continue below.

  2. Enable EFT origination with HSBC

Ask your HSBC relationship manager to add Canadian EFT payments to your HSBCnet profile. HSBC confirms the service agreement, approval rules and the users allowed to upload and release files.

  3. Get your Originator ID and confirm your account details

HSBC issues your Originator ID when the service is active. Also note the transit number of your branch, the institution number 016 and your business account number.

  4. Enter them in Zefty once

Choose HSBC Canada during setup, enter your business name as the bank has it, your Originator ID and your account details. Zefty keeps them for every file that follows.

  5. Generate, upload and approve

Select bills, choose a payment date and download your file. Upload it through HSBCnet, approve it, and Zefty records the payments in Zoho Books.

Help

  • If your account moves to RBC after you set up Zefty, switch your bank profile in your settings and enter your new Client Number. Your Zoho Books connection and your payment history stay exactly as they were.
  • Run a test file after any change of bank profile. It takes a minute and records nothing in Zoho Books.
  • Every file is kept with a readable report of exactly what was sent, under whichever bank profile was active. That record is worth having during a migration.

HSBC Canada and Zefty: common questions

Switch your bank to RBC Royal Bank in your settings, enter the Client Number RBC issued to you and update your account details. Generate a test file and upload it in RBC Express to confirm everything before sending live payments. Support can do it with you by email if you prefer.

Yes, as long as your account still operates under institution number 016 and HSBCnet accepts Canadian EFT uploads for it. Confirm with your relationship manager which platform to upload through.

No. Nothing changes on the vendor side, since each vendor's banking details come from Zoho Books. Only the details that identify you as the originator change when you switch bank profiles in Zefty.

Yes. Every file, its report and your payment history stay in your organization regardless of which bank profile was active when they were generated. Changing the bank only affects files generated afterwards, and your Zoho Books connection and vendor data are untouched.

Set up HSBC Canada, or RBC if you have migrated, in minutes

Zefty supports both profiles. Choose your bank, enter your originator details once and generate EFT 1464 files from Zoho Books. Plans from $29 per month in CAD.
